Winter Soldier II screening

Lestat's Coffee House will be hosting a screening of Winter Soldier II (trailer) on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 19:00.

Also, they will have a short film to open the program, Residue, which won Best San Diego Short at the 2008 San Diego Film Festival.

It's free and open to the public, but donations to Iraq Veterans Against the War are appreciated and should be directed to IVAW.org/support.

North County Times article

I was interviewed for this article: Monthly troop deaths lowest since Iraq invasion

The last two paragraphs are about Iraq Veterans Against the War. It basically says that our position is unchanged by death counts. IVAW continues to fight for withdrawal of all occupying forces from Iraq.

IVAW in Associated Press article

I was interviewed by the Associated Press for this article which was published on July 1, 2008: Military see 2008 race through different lens (it's also in many other news outlets that carry AP content)

Here's the relevant part:

Such talk rankles Sgt. Kenyon Ralph, 24, of San Diego. Ralph, a Marine reservist who served in Iraq twice, is a member of Iraq Veterans Against The War, and is backing Obama.

Ralph, once a registered Republican who twice voted for President Bush, says he gradually turned against the war, and now says he can't bring himself to vote for someone who supports keeping troops in Iraq.

"What did he say? One hundred years or something," Ralph said of McCain. "We've got five down and 95 more years to go."
I did say something to that effect, but I said a lot more too. I think the interview took about 30 minutes, but that was what they decided to use. Seems a bit of a silly quotation to me, but whatever. IVAW got in the news, so that's good.

Also good is that I wasn't portrayed as speaking for all of IVAW, because I wasn't.

Local protest coverage

Click the picture.
And another article from Del Mar Village Voice.

Here's the text of the caption, from the November 22, 2007 Carmel Valley News/Del Mar Village Voice:

The protest continues — Protesters against the Iraq war continue to gather Sunday afternoons in Carmel Valley on the corner of Del Mar Heights Rd. and El Camino Real. Organizer Gil Field said on a recent Sunday "Carmel Valley had 21 very upbeat folks... Including three new folks, [one of whom is] a student at Torrey Pines High School. Response was really good from passing cars, with very few thumbs down or one-finger salutes. Lots and lots of waves and honks. The message is clearly being seen and heard. We have numerous veterans who join us each week, but on this [particular] Sunday Kenyon Ralph, a Marine with two tours in Iraq and now a leader in the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), was back on the corner with us, which pumped people up. We love to have him there when someone drives up and suggests we don't support the troops, as we just send over Kenyon to provide a more accurate assessment. They are usually quite surprised," Field said. The protest occurs every Sunday from 1–2 p.m. at the same corner (Del Mar Heights Road and El Camino Real). All concerned citizens are invited to participate. For more information, contact Gil FIeld at 858-342-1964.
